In Iraq, the United States played a desperate game of countermeasure – circumvention – countermeasure against the insurgents’ remotely detonated IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices – ie, roadside bombs). During the height of operations, reporters were detained and kicked out of the country for writing about US countermeasures. Detailed insight into the technology involved has now emerged, reported by Noah Shachtman at WIRED’s Danger Room. It is a fascinating read.
